چکیده

Linear programming-based estimation procedures are used in a variety of arenas. Two notable areas are multi-attribute utility models (LINMAP) and production frontiers (Data Envelopment Analysis, DEA). Both LINMAP and DEA have theoretical and managerial advantages. For example, LINMAP treats ordinal scaled preference data as such in uncovering individual level attribute weights, while regression treats these preferences as interval scaled. DEA produces easy to understand efficiency measures which allow for improved productivity benchmarking. However, acceptance of these techniques is hindered by the lack of statistical significance tests for their parameter estimates. In this paper we propose and evaluate such parameter significance tests. Two types of tests are forwarded. The first examines whether a model’s fit is significantly reduced when an explanatory variable is deleted. The second is based on generating a standard deviation or distribution for the parameter estimate using nonparametric jackknife or bootstrap techniques. We demonstrate through simulations that both types of tests reliably identify both significant and insignificant parameters. The availability of these tests, especially the relatively simple and easy to use tests of the first type, should enhance the utilization of linear programming-based estimation.

Local linear estimators and a statistical framework for event related field analysis

A method is described that combines linear source estimation (beamformers) with non-parametric statistical significance testing to yield vector time series estimates for brain regions of interest. These source time series are a suitable starting point for functional connectivity analysis. Keywords—EMEG beamformers, non-parametric significance testing, functional connectivity analysis

Truncated Linear Minimax Estimator of a Power of the Scale Parameter in a Lower- Bounded Parameter Space

Minimax estimation problems with restricted parameter space reached increasing interest within the last two decades Some authors derived minimax and admissible estimators of bounded parameters under squared error loss and scale invariant squared error loss In some truncated estimation problems the most natural estimator to be considered is the truncated version of a classic...

Modeling Ghotour-Chai River’s Rainfall-Runoff process by Genetic Programming

Considering the importance of water and computing the amount of rainfall runoff resulted from precipitation in recent decades, using appropriate methods for predicting the amount of runoff from rainfall date has been really essential. Rainfall-runoff models are used to estimate runoff generated from precipitation in the catchment area. Rainfall-runoff process is totally a non-linear phenomenon....

Pitman-Closeness of Preliminary Test and Some Classical Estimators Based on Records from Two-Parameter Exponential Distribution

In this paper, we study the performance of estimators of parametersof two-parameter exponential distribution based on upper records. The generalized likelihood ratio (GLR) test was used to generate preliminary test estimator (PTE) for both parameters. We have compared the proposed estimator with maximum likelihood (ML) and unbiased estimators (UE) under mean-squared error (MSE) and Pitman me...

Ridge Stochastic Restricted Estimators in Semiparametric Linear Measurement Error Models

In this article we consider the stochastic restricted ridge estimation in semipara-metric linear models when the covariates are measured with additive errors. The development of penalized corrected likelihood method in such model is the basis for derivation of ridge estimates. The asymptotic normality of the resulting estimates are established. Also, necessary and sufficient condition...
